Ultra-distance cycler Kristof Allegaert earned fame in 2015 after he won the Trans-Siberian Extreme. With a route of 9200 km that follows the infamous Trans-Siberian railway, the race is one of the longest of its kind in the world. Besides his sports career, Allegaert is a teacher in mechanics at a school in Kortrijk, Flanders. In 2011, he also broke the world record dating from 1978 for the Tour de France Randonneur, and he won three editions of the Transcontinental Race, a long distance race in Europe.
